1996 Kadey-Krogen 48 Whaleback

Sausalito, California

WHALERIDER, hull no.9 is a fine example of a lovingly nurtured long-range trawler capable of cruising 2500 miles. Her robust Pure Full Displacement ® hull form delivers superior seakeeping ability assisted by hydraulic fin stabilizers attached to her solid glass hull with incorporated iron ballast "wineglass" transom which is the moniker of every Kadey-Krogen yacht.

A fully enclosed "back porch" accented with teak decking wrapped with a custom couch & cocktail table warmly welcome those aboard this 48 Whaleback.

Full beam salon adjoined with the large u-shaped galley with updated fridge, stove and microwave. The spacious 48 Whaleback offers a step-less main deck leading you forward to her three cabin/two head floorplan. Owner's master cabin can be found in the v-berth complete with walk around queen, vanity and separate head entrance. Port and starboard guest cabins can be found amidships with over/under pullman bunks. Your guests will share the day head found with standing shower next to the stackable washer/dryer.

Opposite the day head and beneath the pilothouse stairs is the center bilge access for the ship's electrical, water tanks, watermaker, work bench, deep freezer & massive dry goods storage. Up the high gloss-finished spiral stairs is the helm. Large L-Shape couch seating for six can be found. A fresh water sink ties the space into more of a living space. A single helm chair offers the captain 360 views ideal for docking. Autopilot remote can also be found for steering the ship remotely from the Portuguese bridge with passage to the bow. Port and starboard side doors and wide walk-around side decks allow a small crew to maneuver with ease. Launching of the 10foot Zodiac tender is a breeze with the MarQuipt davit.

WHALERIDER is powered by a single 210hp Caterpillar 3208 with 7550 hours and 4900 hours on her 12kW Northern Lights genset with full service records.

Having cruised the Great Loop as well as the Pacific Coast from Mexico to Alaska WHALERIDER's owners have made some thoughtful upgrades since purchasing the vessel in Stuart in 2005.

Hull Form

Besides the Architectural Integrity of a Kadey-Krogen, the hull design is perhaps the most important reason why seasoned mariners are attracted in the first place and also why so many come to love the brand. Each and every Krogen yacht begins with Kadey-Krogen’s exclusive Pure Full Displacement ® (PFD) hull-a masterpiece design for full displacement pleasure yachts, originally created in the 1970s by James S. Krogen. This is a hull form with ideal displacement-to-length ratios, a fine entry, and characteristic end-to-end symmetry including the signature “wineglass” transom-all producing a ride that is truly without equal.

We are singular in focus and only build this proven, reliable seaworthy and sea kindly cruising hull form. The Pure Full Displacement hull design does what it does so well, that cruisers are ensured a safer and more comfortable time aboard when compared to vessels built upon other hull forms. Only the pure full displacement hull provides the stability for comfort plus ample room for the fuel and supplies needed to make long passages or cross an ocean. And only the exclusive Kadey-Krogen hull form allows us to combine the elements to deliver capability and liveability so perfectly.
